Letter from Charmayne James

By Thunder EquiGames

Hello All:

Thank you for all of your inquiries concerning my EquiGames Barrel Race in Las Vegas during the NFR. For those of you who attended the first annual last year, I hope you will agree that even though we put it together in just one short month, it met all of our expectations. I can’t express how excited we are to have an entire year to put together a memorable experience with this year’s Barrel Race held as part of the fabulous Thunder EquiGames. Our goal is to provide a great race with a unique payout to contestants who appreciate the big game with a production that pays attention to detail.

As I stated last year, and still maintain, we want an open barrel race that pays big money without having to travel a pro rodeo schedule. The 2nd Annual EquiGames Open Barrel Race is scheduled for December 2nd & 3rd, the first week of the NFR. This is a schedule change from last year, avoiding any conflict with BFA in Oklahoma, and this also keeps us away from the main team roping so we will have plenty of stalls.

Last year we paid back $60,000 in cash and prizes for 114% of total entry fees paid back, with 21% of all entrants drawing a check. That wasn’t an accident, Denny Gentry is kind of a guru when it comes figuring out formats, paybacks and understanding how to develop big payouts and still have fun. Each year for the next two or three years you will see us increase the payoffs at this event.  We are adding $40,000 this year just to make it interesting. We are also guaranteeing a $10,000 Bonus for fastest time on four runs with two horses. This should be a lot of fun and put a little different twist on things. If you’ve looked at the posters then you see that we have added 2D insurance into the race. Make no mistake this is NOT a "2D" race.  That is simply a financial insurance policy against a mishap, but will not deter from the open nature of this event.

This year’s race will be two full rounds for $1,500 on one horse. For one horse you get to run at two rounds and on a two run average. But there is much more, or a BONUS if you will! If you want to increase your leverage and run at more money, you have the option to enter a second horse for $500. This horse is also eligible for the first two rounds and possibly the two run average, but by entering a second horse you have entered yourself in a four run average using two horses. Two runs on your main horse and two runs on your backup, borrowed or leased horse. We will make sure that you will not run more than one run/per day/per horse.

You will have many ways to win money between go-rounds, a two run average, and a four run average (provided you decide to play the bonus). Progression will work backwards and there will be no double dipping at first place. What does that mean? If you win the two run average  you are not eligible for the allowed to win the $10,000 four run Bonus. All other racers in the average are eligible. This will guarantee that all winners win good checks, avoiding the double dip at first place, guaranteeing a distribution of winnings.

If you are a serious racer I hope you will give us a try. Together, we can make this a great event and solidify our participation in Las Vegas each December. Thanks in advance for your consideration and we welcome the opportunity to discuss this with you if you have suggestions or comments. Please feel free to contact me at charmayne@charmaynejames.com or Denny at dgentry06@comcast.net.

Sincerely

Charmayne James
